Archaeologist

I have always been interested in archaeology, mostly through my parents and visits to Mediterranean countries. Therefore, I started studying Classical Archaeology at Free University Berlin in 2011. Soon after, I changed to Egyptology which has been my focus of fascination and interest all along. I did my Bachelor’s degree in 2015 and am currently working on my Master’s.

I began to work in Sudan as student assistant on Mograt and instantly fell in love with the island, its people, landscape and history. My first season was in early 2015 and since then I had the chance to work with a bunch of amazing and lovely people here and throughout Sudan – from Mograt Island to the 2nd Cataract.

My research interest, besides ancient languages, is architecture. For my Master's thesis, I will take a closer look at the Middle Kingdom fortress of Shalfak at the 2nd Cataract, more specifically on the building materials which have been used in its constructions. As a background, I try to inspect as many monumental mudbrick constructions along the Nile as I can, starting from Amarna in Middle Egypt to Mograt and the many fortresses surrounding the island.
